There are often many benefits to choosing an insurance agent in your area for your insurance needs. For one, these agents often act as brokers, meaning that they have more leeway when it comes to working with various insurance companies to customize a policy that’s right for you.

Smaller companies are often more personalized when it comes to customer service, as well. The auto insurance market is very competitive and reputation is one thing that smaller companies can leverage to their advantage since they’re able to provide service on a more personal level.

You can take a look at the table below to get an idea of what you might pay for auto insurance depending on how much coverage you decide to buy. The table shows average annual rates based on coverage levels.

What is NGM Insurance Company’s availability by state?

NGM is part of the Main Street Insurance Group and offers coverage in 37 states. The group also offers surety and fidelity bonds in 47 states and the District of Columbia.

If you’re looking for an independent agent, they operate through six different regions: Northeast, New England, Mid-Atlantic, West, Southwest, and South East.

NGM and Main Street America prefer to utilize local, independent agents rather than corporate agents.

They do so because independent agents have the freedom to represent seven or eight different auto insurance carriers, giving them the flexibility to match the right insurance policy with each individual customer.

The company also believes in the value of personal, one-on-one relationships with agents, believing that they better facilitate the insurance process.

On the Main Street America website, the company provides a “find an agent” link. The link redirects your browser to a standard search page that allows you to find a local auto insurance agent based on your address.

For more information about these additional offices, you’re encouraged to contact the corporate headquarters using the information listed above.

How to Make an NGM Insurance Auto Insurance Claim

One of the reasons that NGM utilizes independent agents is that those agents can assist individual customers with auto insurance claims.

Officially, the company has no preference as to whether you contact them directly or go through your agent.

The local agent will be aware of any local circumstances or conditions that may affect your claim. Furthermore, the one-on-one relationship customers develop with their agents gives them a little peace of mind when they have to start the claims process.

Another option is to report your claim online. Main Street America provides a link on their website to begin the online process.

At the top of the page is a suggestion to call your local agent if at all possible, but if not they will accept the online form.

There are different instructions depending on the type of claim you are filing so be sure to follow them carefully. Ultimately, you will be contacted by an NGM representative or your local agent. You may be asked to send documents to the NGM insurance claims mailing address.

NGM Insurance: Auto Insurance Ratings

Customer reviews for NGM are scant, probably because they are a regional carrier that doesn’t get a lot of national attention. But, among the reviews we were able to find, the company scored an average of two out of five.

The cost of policies and the coverage they offer tended to get higher marks, while claims service and overall customer service tended to receive lower marks.

In terms of insurance company reviews, this scenario is not unusual. It’s quite often the unhappy customer who is more inclined to write a review, thereby resulting in lower ratings in the customer service department.

Frequently Asked Questions: NGM Auto Insurance

In this section, we answer some of the most commonly asked questions about NGM auto insurance. Some of the answers may have been covered in part or in full in the guide above.

#1 – Does NGM Insurance offer SR-22 insurance?

If you’ve had more than your fair share of traffic citations, automobile accidents, and/or auto insurance claims, you may be considered a high-risk driver. Normally, high-risk drivers are required to purchase SR-22 insurance, which is not available through all companies, so it may take some looking around to find coverage.

The filing fee to get SR-22 insurance is only $15–$35, but the increase in rates for SR-22 insurance when compared to rates for drivers without any driving violations on their records is steep. Rate increases for driving violations that result in a driver being forced to carry SR-22 insurance can be as much as $541 a month.

#2 – What kinds of questions should I be prepared for when purchasing my auto insurance policy?

When you apply for an auto insurance policy, you’ll be asked a series of demographic questions such as your name, age, sex, etc. You’ll also be asked a variety of other questions aimed at assessing your risk as a driver.

Some of the things the insurance company will want to know about are your driving record, the type of vehicle you’re insuring, and whether or not you’ve had any tickets or accidents in the past. Once this information is collected, the insurance company uses this data to assess your risk as a driver and to determine your policy rates.

This is known as the underwriting process. By using this method of risk evaluation, auto insurance companies are able to reduce their chances of losing money on issued policies. They’ll examine your risk factors and decide if they want to insure you, and if so, at what rate.

#3 – Are there benefits to using an agent to purchase auto insurance?

While it is possible to purchase your auto insurance policy directly instead of through an agent, there are some possible downsides to doing so.

First of all, if you choose to go with a local agent, you’ll get the advantage of more personalized service. This experience is just not possible when you purchase directly from a large company. With a local agent, it’s quite possible that you may speak to the same person about your policy every time.

Many people believe that buying directly from the company can save them money by cutting out the figurative “middleman,” but this theory fails to take into account the large budget that these companies use for direct marketing. This can even out the playing field when it comes to price, meaning that a local agent can often offer you the same prices you’d see when buying directly from a large insurance company.

#4 – How does adding drivers to my auto insurance policy affect my rates?

Adding another driver to your auto insurance policy means that your car will be spending more time on the road since a second person will be driving it. That alone is enough to raise your rates, but adding someone else to your auto insurance policy also means that your rates will be affected by that driver’s perceived risk, as well.

For example, adding a teenager to your policy can raise your auto insurance rates drastically since teenage drivers are inexperienced, and auto insurance companies see them as high-risk.

There are restrictions as to who you can add to your auto insurance policy. Most companies will only allow you to add people in the same household. Always check with your auto insurance provider to see who you can add to make sure that whoever is driving your vehicle is covered on the policy.

#5 – Why would my provider cancel my auto insurance policy?

Your auto insurance provider may cancel your policy if you do any of the following:

  • Get your driver’s license suspended or revoked
  • Lie during the application process
  • Fail to pay your auto insurance premium

Your auto insurance company may also choose not to renew your policy if they determine you to be a high-risk driver.
