Berkshire Hathaway was founded in 1955. It became a company when Valley Falls Company and Hathaway Manufacturing Company merged.

Valley Falls Company was a textile mill industry and Hathaway was in manufacturing. When they merged, their business was failing. They had to continue to close down mills over the next decade.

By the 1960s, Warren Buffett started to buy stock after each new mill closed. After he watched the steady decline, he decided to purchase the majority of the shares giving him control over the company.

Buffett realized that he needed to expand into different investments to keep things afloat. Through his different investments, Berkshire Hathaway is one of the biggest companies in the world.

Their shares, at 215,500 a share, on the New York Stock Exchange are the most expensive on Wall Street.

Due to his investment strategies, Berkshire Hathaway’s revenue in 2015 was over 210 billion dollars. Buffett is listed in the top 3 for Forbes top 10 world billionaire list, only outdone by Bill Gates and Amancio Ortega.

His net worth is 60.8 billion dollars. Although Berkshire Hathaway owns a wide variety of different types of companies, Geico is their car insurance company.

They were acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 1996. It is the second-largest auto insurer in the United States.
