What You Should Know About Germania Insurance

Ratings contribute to an organization’s success as well. When vetted by reputable organizations, it provides key insight into an organization’s operations and their stability in the near future. So what do the ratings say about Germania insurance company? Let’s take a look.

A.M. Best

Industry analyst A.M. Best gives Germania Mutual Insurance an “A-” rating for financial strength and an “A-” for issuer credit. This means that the company has an “excellent” ability to meet their insurance obligations, as well as an “excellent” ability to meet their ongoing senior obligations.

The rating affirmations of Germania recognize its very strong risk-adjusted capitalization, long-time experience and expertise in the Texas marketplace, along with its conservative investment philosophy, which continues to produce favorable net investment income and be the main driver of pre-tax operating gains and net income.

This strength is prevalent despite several risk-factors that the company faces.

Going forward, A.M. Best anticipates continued stability in operating results. However, as a single-state writer in Texas, a certain degree of variability is expected due to the group’s inherent exposure to frequent and severe weather-related events, as well as any judicial, economic or regulatory concerns that may arise.

Variables are expected to arise, according to the risk-assessing agency. This does not negate, however, the insurer’s ability to deliver to their customers.

Better Business Bureau

The Better Business Bureau (or BBB) has a mission to help individuals find businesses they can trust. The Better Business Bureau has also rated Germania Insurance Company, despite it not yet being a BBB-accredited organization.

Germania was rated an “A+” by the Better Business Bureau. This is the highest rating possible for an organization assessed by BBB.

Ratings are calculated numerically from a number of elements, including complaints, time in business, transparency, licensing and government actions, and others. These elements are scored, and then overall scores are assessed a letter grade — an A+, for example, ranging from 97 to 100.

Overall, BBB found Germania to be a thorough organization based on key elements — some of which we listed above. These scores, however, do not include customer complaints.

NAIC

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (or NAIC) publishes complaint data for insurance companies. Through this data, we are also able to get a glimpse into an organization’s performance.

The NAIC has complaint data on Germania Insurance Company as well. Let’s take a look at the chart below.

Germania Auto Insurance Complaint Data (2017–2019)
Germania Auto Insurance Private Passenger Policy Statistics201720182019
Total Complaints000
Complaint Index (Better or worse than national index)0 (better)0 (better)0 (better)
National Complaint Index111
US Market Share0.00%0.00%0.00%
Total Premiums$7,337,000$9,199,062$9,046,071

The number of complaints were better than the national average for all three years, from 2017–2019. That’s good news, compared to some of their rivaling organizations. It is also worthy to note that Germania isn’t a huge corporation; its market share has been at zero in the industry for the last several years. This supports the theory that a smaller organization has more room to enhance their customer service skills, which could be indicative of the lower number of complaints.

Germania: Auto Insurance History

Germania started as most insurance companies more than a century old did: it began as a farm insurance company. Before businesses, homes, and automobiles needed insurance, farms were the most important insurable asset. By insuring farms, they were also insuring the income of their clients. Farms were the livelihood in many areas across the United States, especially Texas, in 1896 when Germania was founded.

Germania was founded as a mutual insurance company, which back then meant that several farmers were working together to make sure their livelihood was protected.

Since its founding, Germania has grown from one company to a group of companies. Germania insurance is made up of:

  • Germania Mutual Insurance Association
  • Germania Insurance Company
  • Germania Fire and Casualty Company
  • Germania Select Insurance Company
  • Texas Heritage Insurance Company
  • Germania Life Insurance Company

Over the last 115 years, Germania has grown to over 185,000 members, and it is a company that is owned by its members.

When you purchase a policy, you receive stock in the company and are able to buy more stock in the company if you choose to do so. Employees are also given a share in the company.

While Germania may not have as much visibility as some of its competitors, it has roots in the insurance industry that shouldn’t go unnoticed, especially if you want to make an informed selection when shopping around for your auto insurance.

How is Germania’s online presence?

In the 21st century, a strong online presence can contribute to the success of an organization.

With that said, Germania has a strong online presence. It has a website where you can get an insurance quote, as well as a customer portal where you can manage your insurance policy.

Germania also has blog posts and newsletters where you can learn more about the organization. This, coupled with its Facebook and Indeed account, show that they are trying to compete with their rivals.

Germania Insurance Company is not agent only. Their online presence presents multiple faucets for engaging with the organization.

Germania seems to do it right when it comes to its online presence. Customers are able to engage with the company virtually, as it is common to do nowadays.

Does Germania have commercials?

Commercials serve as a creative approach to the success of an organization. In this commercial from Germania, the appeal is emotional. In a humane way, the company reminds customers that they were there from the beginning, through the various disasters those customers faced. Though many things have changed, one thing has remained the same — Germania is still with Texas.

Overall, commercials are meant to attract customers and drive revenue. For someone looking at this commercial, it could make them wonder what Germania is about, making it a successful advertisement.

What do Germania employees have to say?

Employees are another way that we can gauge an employer’s success. They often provide insight that allows us to view the company from inside-out, rather than outside-in, going beyond what is presented by the employer itself. That being said, let’s now dive into some Germania Insurance employee reviews.

On Glassdoor, Germania received a 2.6 out of five stars.

Keep in mind that these reviews are from only a small portion of individuals, but one’s experience should be validated nonetheless. So let’s break this down a bit:

  • Culture & Values – 2.8 out of five stars
  • Work/Life Balance – 2.7 out of five stars
  • Senior Management – 3.1 out of five stars
  • Compensation & Benefits – 2.7 out of five stars
  • Career Opportunities – 2.7 out of five stars

Furthermore, of those that gave reviews for the company, 41 percent would recommend it to a friend, 23 approve of the CEO, and 36 percent have a positive business outlook about the company.

These numbers are definitely not ones that a business would like to see. However, with the right mindset, it could definitely lead to improvement.

The numbers at PayScale were a bit higher. Overall, this would provide an average experience for individuals at the company.

Individuals at Payscale gave Germania Insurance Company an overall rating of 3.9 stars (out of five).

We can break this down a bit further:

  • Appreciation – 3.1 out five stars
  • Company Outlook – 3.1 out of five stars

  • Pay Transparency – 2.8 out of five stars

Upper management and learning received the highest stars, while issues around pay caused the lowest ratings.

Germania in the Community

Germania is one of the many companies that donate towards charitable causes. While they don’t publicize their giving on their website, they do make donations to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

With Germania’s help, St. Baldrick’s Foundation is able to support childhood cancer research.

Design of Germania Website & App

User experience is not only key to an organization’s operations, but it could also measure the success of a company. How? Because a faulty user experience could reflect horribly on the esteem of the company, driving prospects and even customers to seek a more efficient experience elsewhere, especially as it relates to their business.

First, we’ll start with the mobile app. Like many companies, Germania offers a mobile app as a complement to its operations for its customers. You should be able to locate this app in the app store on your smartphone device. This app is specific to claims, allowing one to upload images and ultimately receive an estimate.

The app will guide you through steps needed to capture the pictures of your vehicle’s damage and submit it for review.

There aren’t enough ratings in the app store to provide an adequate view of user experience, however, the app is clean, easy to download, and appears to be a nice complement to move the process of claims along sooner.

Customers are expected to login on the web, rather than having an app dedicated to their primary functions.

The website provides a sleek, clean, and clear experience. Everything you need is located on the main page, including getting a quote, claims, products and services, and contact information. If you’re still a little lost, there is a search bar at the top right of the page that allows you to customize your search.

The website isn’t cluttered with unnecessary fluff and gets you where you need to go. You can use the agent search here to find Germania agents in places like Denison, Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Amarillo, or wherever you live in Texas.

Germania Insurance Coverage Options

Germania, though officially a farm mutual insurance company, sells several types of insurance.

Types of auto insurance, property insurance, personal liability insurance, and life insurance are the four main types of insurance products marketed and sold by Germania and its agents.

Having an array of coverage allows Germania to better serve the individuals and businesses of the state of Texas.

What are Germania’s bundling options?

Germania, like most insurance companies, offers bundling options as a way for their customers to save on their detailed policies. This is a critical component to an organization’s success. Bundling options are incentives, which can go a long way with customers and their loyalty.

Take a look at how bundling works in this video.

That being said, Germania allows you to bundle several different ways. They are the following:

  • Auto and Property
  • Auto, Property, and Life

You can bundle homeowners as well as Germania renters insurance with your auto. Nowadays, having bundling options available to customers have become the norm. However, it shouldn’t go unnoticed when an organization incorporates these incentives nonetheless.

Discounts include companion policy discounts, all-metal roof discount, hail resistant roof discount, claims-free discounts, and an alarm discount.

The personal liability policies offered by Germania are meant to protect your assets if something happens to someone on your property for which you could be held legally liable.

For example, this protection would apply to someone getting hurt on your property or rental property, if your dog bit someone, or if someone was hurt on a watercraft that you own.

The Germania life insurance program was started in 1983, and plans can be customized for all different types of coverage for people of different ages. They offer a companion policy discount on permanent plans, term life plans, and annuities. They will help you decide the amount and type of coverage necessary for you and your family.

What Stands Out, What’s Missing

One unique discount is the mature driver’s discount. While we know rates typically drop for older drivers, drivers over 50 under Germania’s policy are able to catch an additional break with this incentive. Something that is missing is a discount associated with tracking for good drivers.

If individuals find the process to be inconsistent and lengthy, for example, they might turn towards complaints or finding a quicker solution elsewhere. How to Get a Germania Auto Insurance Quote Online

One of the key ways an organization obtains business and an effective tool for success is obtaining a quote. Making quotes accessible, whether online or through an agent, allows an individual to see if they would like to move from prospect to customer. So how do you get a Germania insurance quote? The following steps are outlined below.

Initial Information

For this introductory step, you are asked to provide basic information. This includes:

  • First Name
  • Last Name

You are also asked two basic questions — 1) are you an existing member, and 2) what is your product of interest.

How soon one would have to wait could depend on the time day that the quote was sent — for example, if it’s after business hours, you might be contacted during business hours.

It is also not known who will be contacting you, but it will most likely be a customer service representative or an often sought insurance agent like Patsy Vessels at Germania.

The representative or insurance agent will let you know if they require additional information when you are contacted — for auto, for instance, you might be asked about the details of your vehicle and for what purposes you use it.

Doing this for multiple companies might be a frustrating experience. For that reason, we offer our free tool below, where you can start comparing rates today.

POOR!!!

Texas DMV requires license renewal after age 82, but it is impossible to get renewal except by appointment. My earliest available appointment is 1/10/24, and they have cancelled me on Christmas day, 12/25/23. They will lift the cancellation only when I have a new license, thus leaving me and my wife unable to leave the house for over two weeks. They say they're a Texas company -- not the kind of Texas people i know (all hat and no cattle)!!

Overall good

I stayed with this company for about 12 years. Overall my experience was very positive. I never had any major issues with them. I had filed a handful of claims in the 12 years I was with them. Ultimately, I decided to leave because I thought they were a bit too expensive.

Great rates

Great rates with the option to lower payments even further by setting up auto withdrawal and by paying every quarter instead of every month.

I hope that anyone who is considering purchasing this insurance has an opportunity to read this first-----we have a small ranch in Valley View, Texas. On June 1, 2019, there was what is called a "micro-burst" in our area and it absolutely destroyed things and looked like a small tornado whirling things around and into our home, barn, horse trailer and even our vehicles. It was strong enough winds that it put the smaller metal swing set into the back of one of the trucks and demolished the grand babies SkyFort !!! It was awful. Of course we called the insurance company the following Monday and the property claim has gone well.....the vehicle claim - - NOT SO MUCH! It starts with the agent. The original agent we had has since retired and now we have this " [REDACTED NAME]". He is about as uneducated as we are, and from where I stand in this - - the reason we have an agent is to guide us. Well, he has us to take the vehicles for an estimate. [REDACTED NAME], in [REDACTED NAME], was very nice and enlightened us that this is not the proper procedure. So, I returned home and started over. The agent stated that he could go ahead and start the claim and he did. Next thing you know, an appraiser is coming to our home. He does. He doesn't speak to my husband except to say that he was going to take photos of our vehicles. 10 minutes later, he is gone. Next thing you know we are being told that we don't have hail damages and now we are being sent to the "INVESTIGATIONS Department". As of today, the Investigator has done interrogation on us, as we had a recorded conversation about the happenings. He has asked or photos, we have provided them and additionally suggested that he speak to the property claim adjuster, as she took her own photos, as well. He has now informed us that he will be having an "engineer" to come to our ranch and determine if this actually happened as we have described and even went as far to ask if we took any photos during the storm or had any video???? Seriously ???? Look, we have an 11 year old autistic son that was completely freaked out when this happened and the VERY last thing on our mind was "PHOTOS"!!!!!! All in All----GERMANIA INSURANCE COMPANY STINKS AND DEALING WITH THEM HAS BEEN A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. Feel free to reach out to us and we will gladly share more details of this experiece. As of today, July 2, 2019....all three of our vehicles are damaged and they could care less. Horrible Customer Service and Horrible comfort offered to us as the insured.

I have had two wrecks that were not my fault in the 8 years I have had this policy. The insurance company and agent has always helped the process to get the work done. One replaced windshield due to wildlife. We receive a bundle rate which is why we have not moved our business.
