Preferred Professional Insurance Company History

Preferred Professional Insurance Company was founded in 1987 when a group of Catholic healthcare organizations banded together to provide physicians with quality medical malpractice insurance.

The company was then known as Preferred Physicians Insurance Company and provided physicians with resources for continuing education, risk management, and consultative services.

Throughout the 1990s PPIC grew and joined with Consolidated Catholic Casualty Risk Retention Group to better meet the needs of Catholic healthcare systems.

At this time the company’s name was changed to Preferred Professional Insurance Company to reflect the wider range of people it now served.

In 2000 Catholic Relief Society of America became a partner and shareholder beginning a trend of allowing Catholic healthcare systems to buy in and become shareholders themselves in the company.

Seven more Catholic healthcare systems followed suit quickly after this and today 19 Catholic Healthcare Systems are joint shareholders and owners of PPIC.
