NRMA is an acronym for National Roads and Motorists’ Association, an automobile association in the New South Wales and Capital territories of Australia.

The organization was founded in 1920 and now boasts some two million members. They offer the products and services you would typically expect from an automobile association, including insurance policies for:

NRMA Auto Insurance

Insurance regulations in Australia are somewhat different from those in the United States, as is the terminology. For example, if we used the phrase “comprehensive insurance” in the States, that would refer to a policy that covers just about anything that could happen to your car.

A comprehensive policy in that country is the minimum policy required by law. It covers liability issues related to you and your car, and property damage or physical injury you may cause to other people.

Since NRMA operates in New South Wales, their customers who live in that territory must also purchase mandatory third-party insurance known as CTP Greenslips. The need for this extra coverage arises from the at-fault nature of insurance claims and Australia.

In other words, if you sustain serious personal injuries in an accident deemed to be your fault, your primary insurance may not be willing to pick up the tab.

This extra coverage kicks in when your primary coverage leaves off so that you’re not left hanging with an expensive bill for a serious personal injury.

In addition to these two mandatory coverages, NRMA customers also have the option of adding extra:

Owners of vintage cars, commercial fleets, and recreational vehicles also have access to specialized policies for their needs.

NRMA Quotes

The NRMA website provides an online quote tool for drivers to get started in finding a brand-new policy. Like most quote tools, this one begins by asking for your address.

Depending on where you live, it will also ask you further information about the type of car you drive, who operates it most of the time, the age and gender of all drivers, and some questions about your driving history.

Since not everyone is comfortable doing this sort of thing online, interested customers can certainly call NRMA directly and receive a quote from a qualified telephone representative.

Just keep in mind that quotes are not guarantees; the price you’re given will be adjusted up or down pending the confirmation of the information you provide.

NRMA Agents and Locations

As an automobile association, NRMA has literally dozens of offices scattered throughout their areas of coverage. At these offices, customers can speak to agents, modify policies, make payments, purchase policies, and so forth.

The best way to find a local office near you is to visit the corporate website and use their office search tool.

This tool allows you to select your city as well as the amount of distance you’re willing to travel. In major cities like Sydney, there is no shortage of locations.

NRMA reminds Australia’s drivers that not all products and services are available at all locations. Some of their locations are fully staffed and provide the full range of what NRMA offers.

It’s also important to note that the agents you find at local offices do not operate in the same way as agents in the United States do.

With the American Automobile Association (AAA), each office is more or less a franchise of the national brand and offers car insurance through independent agents.

But in Australia, all of these individual locations are tied directly to the main organization and all employees work for them. It is a direct-to-customer model wrapped in a local agency setting.
