What Are NFP Auto Insurance Rates?

A thorough search of the NFP Insurance website shows few, if any, basic auto insurance policies available to individuals. Though the NFP website makes reference to personal auto coverage, it is mentioned in the same list of coverages as fine art, wine, and antique coverage, which leads us to believe it isn’t intended for your average driver.

At one point there were basic Beacon auto policies and Beacon homeowners insurance, but those options are no longer available now that Beacon is owned by NFP.

The company website references commercial auto policies and even policies for companies that hold huge fleets of vehicles, such as car dealerships. It does not have any quote system available on its website, requiring potential customers to call directly for rates.

Though we are unable to get a quote for insurance rates through NFP, we are able to provide average rates for full coverage by state in the table below:

View as image

Keep in mind that the rates in the table above are for full coverage on personal car insurance policies, so you may not need that much coverage for your vehicle. They are also averages, which means some people pay much less and others pay much more, depending on their individual situation.

What is NFP availability by state?

NFP offers products in every state and across the globe, but it may or may not have personal auto policies available in its product line or in your state, so you will need to reach out to one of its local agents in your area for more information.

NFP insurance locations are abundant, with plenty of local offices for those companies who are interested in signing up for a policy.

What auto insurance policies are offered with Beacon/NFP?

At one point, the standard Beacon car insurance policy included the minimum legal requirements for drivers in South Carolina. It appears this is no longer available, with NFP’s website listing the following insurance options:

  • Auto insurance for dealers
  • Self storage coverage
  • Restaurant, bar, and tavern insurance
  • Coverage for concerts and sporting events
  • Sports organizations

It offers many other coverages as well, but nothing designed for personal use. NFP auto services appear to be limited to high-dollar policies and fleets of vehicles or other commercial coverage at this time.

What discounts are offered by NFP?

NFP likely offers a variety of auto insurance discounts to its customers, but as its customer base appears to be mostly made up of businesses and other commercial organizations, those discounts aren’t readily available to the average person.

If you are looking for discounts available to the average driver, the table below shows which discounts are currently offered by which companies, so ask if you qualify for these with NFP:

Insurance companies regularly update the discounts they offer, so if you are looking for a way to lower your car insurance costs (here are some great ideas from the Insurance Information Institute), be sure to reach out to your insurance company and ask about any discounts you feel you should receive on your policy.

What programs are offered by NFP?

Learn how to get a commercial auto insurance policy from NFP, which offers a variety of specialty programs designed for them, such as corporate aircraft liability, medical fraud, and international sports tournaments.

Medical fraud is similar to, but not the same as, insurance fraud as definded by the FBI.

Most drivers aren’t concerned about these issues, however, and are more interested in personal auto programs, such as:

Some programs are free, such as discount coupons and online learning programs, and some programs come at an additional fee, such as accident forgiveness. Usage-based apps are a separate type of program that could save you money or cost you money, depending on how you drive.

What About Canceling Your NFP Policy?

Businesses with a commercial NFP policy can reach out to the agent who enrolled them in the policy to cancel their coverage.

For someone looking to cancel their personal auto insurance, there are two ways to cancel your policy.

First, if you signed up for coverage with an independent agent, reach out to that agent to help you cancel your insurance policy.

Second, if you signed up directly with a company, you can call the customer service department or potentially even cancel your policy online, if your insurance company provides that option.

Is there a cancellation fee?

As there is no cancellation information on the NFP website, there is no indication of whether or not the company charges a cancellation fee.

Cancellation fees are usually determined based on state laws and regulations, so it is important to look at your local laws to know how much, if anything, an insurance company can charge you for a cancellation fee.

If your agent is helping you cancel your policy they can tell you about any cancellation fees you may be charged and what, if anything, you can do to avoid them.

Is there a refund?

The NFP website doesn’t say anything about a refund of premium, but many insurance companies will refund premiums when appropriate. For example, if you paid your premium through the end of the month but cancel your coverage effective the 26th, you may be entitled to a refund of the premium you paid for the 27th through the 31st.

You typically cannot get a refund for any time during which you were actively covered, whether or not you filed a claim. If you purchased a policy through an agent, reach out to them when you are canceling your coverage to find out whether you may be due a partial refund.

How do you cancel?

Because NFP policies are only available through an agent, you’ll need to work with your agent to cancel your coverage.

As previously mentioned, individuals looking to cancel their personal auto policies can either reach out to the agent who sold them their policy or, if they purchased a policy directly from the company, they can call their insurance company’s customer service number to have their policy canceled by phone. Some companies even have online systems that allow you to terminate your policy over the internet.

Most companies allow you to cancel at any time, but this isn’t universal.

Most companies will cancel your coverage at 11:59 p.m. and start policies at 12:00 a.m., but you will need to verify this at the time of your cancellation.

How Can You Make A NFP Auto Insurance Claim?

Whether your car is damaged by hail or your teen’s distracted driving caused an accident, filing a claim shouldn’t be a difficult process. According to the NFP automated phone message, members who need to file a claim should call the claim directly into their insurance carrier.

If you have an agent, contact them for assistance filing a claim. If you are insured directly through an insurance company, contact their customer service department if you need assistance. Most insurance companies also offer online claim filing options at this time, so you may be able to file your claim that way as well.

What are NFP’s financial strength ratings?

Because NFP is such a large organization that encompasses a variety of financial industries, there are dozens of financial ratings all attributed to the company. For example, Moody’s has announced seven different financial ratings for NFP over the last five years, none of which are affiliated with its property and casualty insurance line.

After reviewing Moody’s, A.M. Best, and S&P, we were not able to find any current financial ratings for NFP.

The most recent financial ratings we were able to find were from 2008, when A.M. Best upgraded Beacon Insurance Group to an A+ (Superior) rating.

Some rating systems are done by state, which means you may need to look up your local NFP office to see how they rank. For example, NFP has earned an A+ rating from BBB in Texas, but this doesn’t mean the NFP in California or Nebraska will have the same rating.

Beacon Auto Insurance Review: What’s The Bottom Line?

Beacon Insurance Group of South Carolina was recently acquired by NFP, becoming part of its commercial and corporate insurance team. NFP may have personal auto insurance coverage, but the information is scarce and what is available leads us to believe it is not intended for the average driver.

Frequently Asked Questions: Beacon Auto Insurance Review

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding Beacon Insurance Group:

#1 – Is this the same Beacon Insurance from Mt. Vernon, IN? Is this the same Beacon Insurance from Biloxi, MS? Is Beacon the same as NFP Insurance in Cornelius, NC or San Jose, CA?

Beacon is a very common name in the insurance industry.

There are half a dozen or more insurance companies that go by the name Beacon or include the word Beacon in their name. Insurance companies and agencies also change affiliations all the time, so the Beacon Insurance in Biloxi could be affiliated with Bishop Insurance agency or NFP, or not, depending on what its contracts say and which got purchased by a larger company and when.

Just because there is a Beacon Insurance office down the street from your house doesn’t mean it is affiliated with any other Beacon Insurance office, NFP or any particular agency, so the only way to know is to call them directly and ask.

#2 – Is there such thing as Beacon Health Insurance?

NFP does offer health plans for employer groups and employee benefits administration, but there is no indication that it offers these services under the Beacon name. That doesn’t mean you don’t have a Beacon health insurance plan, just that it is probably a different Beacon insurance company than the one mentioned in this article.

#3 – Where are the NFP corporate offices?

The NFP headquarters is located in New York, NY.

#4 – What is the NFP logo?

The NFP logo is a green shape that loosely resembles two links in a chain, as can be seen on their website.

#5 – Where can I find Beacon auto insurance near me?

An agent search using your zip code can direct you to an office near you.
